Effective meetings happen when officers and members understand their
roles and are comfortable performing them. Holding a gavel does not
turn an officer into a leader any more than waving a baton turns a violinist
into a conductor. The board or convention meeting is not the place for
the presiding officer to practice; its the place for them to perform.
The presiding officer sets the tone for the meeting. Dont let
that tone be one of confusion or insecurity!
Even the greatest conductor cant create a beautiful orchestral
sound without rehearsals. Give your decision-making process the respect
it deserves by making sure everyone is ready and able to participate.
Delegates and board members can be more effective in their decision-making
roles if they also have had the opportunity to learn the ropes.
My training offerings are both flexible and customized and can
accommodate the president, board members, delegates, or any other member
who is important to your organizations success. Whether theres
time for 10-15 minutes before a meeting, an hour or two during the convention,
or several days during a board retreat, start training tomorrows
leaders today.
